Report 504 HDSRL Hcap Pitstop 10K & NE Vets

Ken Harker has been busy once again, adding to his ever-expanding collection of medals, this time in the North East Masters Championships. On Sunday 28th June, he competed in the 5000m on the track at Jarrow and claimed the silver medal in a time of 17.42, just 6 seconds behind the winner. He then went one better on Tuesday 8th July at the Bridge Of Tyne 5 mile road race, which is also part of the same championships. He finished 21st overall, but was first in the Vet 40 age group in a brilliant time of 28.45, giving him the gold medal and shows he is currently in excellent form.

Three Richmond & Zetland athletes took part in Pitstop 10K Race at Croft Circuit on Wednesday 2nd July. Despite still running with an injury, Darren Cox was first Harrier home in a time of 41.55 and 41st place, slower than his usual pace, but nevertheless a good benchmark under the circumstances. Ian Pattison was next across the line in 46.39 and enjoyed his regular outing at this venue, gaining 83rd position. Pauline Whittaker was the only female Harrier, clocking a respectable time of 54.16, which gave her 140th place overall.

The final event of the Harrogate and District Race League was the Handicap Race, hosted by Ripon Runners on 1st July, which meant that in theory, everyone should finish at approximately the same time. Three Harriers took part and Ian Hepworth found himself at the sharp end and finished a fantastic 6th overall, with a time of 48.39. Andy Everard took 28th place and was the fastest Harrier on the night, with a time of 40.40, while Ray Robson was next across the line in 29th position and a time of 44.10.
