RICHMOND & ZETLAND HARRIERS

Richmond and Zetland Harriers

THE WEATHER IS STILL PLAYING HAVOC with our runners' diaries, but at least a few managed to get some competition in, whether on the cross country courses, indoors, trails, train racing, 10kms and even a few park runs, they still kept at it!

Charlie Stephenson was out on the course again representing Yorkshire at the UK Counties Athletics Union cross country at Loughborough. He was up against the best of his age group in the country and was an excellent 28th overall and the 2nd Yorkshire runner home. Another of our youngsters, who also got his Yorkshire vest at the same event was Tom O’Mahoney, who also acquitted himself very well in his age group.

Dan Upton is still at the top end of the medals in the throws competitions and was once again on the podium at the British Masters National Indoor Athletics meet. He took the British titles for V40 at the hammer (32:24), the weight throw (10:90) and still managed to take 2nd in the shot (12:41) as well as 2nd in the discus (38:85).

It was the annual "Race The Train" race where, after getting the train from Leyburn to Redmire, you then get off and race the train back over 5.5 miles. Elly Robertson took on this pretty, hilly and somewhat muddy run, to finish a brilliant 2nd lady across the line. The annual Lightwater 10km was held at Ripon with a number of our athletes taking to the course, with Ian Christon crossing the line and taking the win with an excellent run (36:31), Rob Lickley in a very good 44th (46:21), Rob Dashwood was 56th (47:53) Pauline Whittaker having a good run in 92nd and the 2nd V50 (51:56), Nicki Buckett returning to form in 166th (58:59) and Vicki Christon in 199th with another good performance in the Christon household (1:02:45). Matilda Ellis continues to improve and had a fantastic run in the Lightwater 3km, finishing as the 2nd female (12:07).

Dalby Forest was the setting for the latest Canicross race over 8km and John Gray and Pippa stormed to the victory (30:10). Two of our younger athletes took part in the Varsity indoors meet between Cambridge and Oxford Universities, with Ben Ross- Russell running for the light blues of Cambridge in the 4 x 200m relay team (22:7) on his leg and was up against Richard Kirkham, running for the dark blues in the same relay race with Richard running (22:9).

At Catterick parkrun Anthony Jefford was 8th (18:59), Carl Loughney was 12th (19:35), Becca Smith was 22nd and the 2nd lady (20:33), Garry Malton was 40th (21:45), Nicola Simpson was 43rd (21:55), Pauline Whittaker was 69th (23:37 SB) and Nicki Buckett was the 30 minute pacer in 173rd (29:55).

Ian Christon was the 1st finisher (18:53), Steve Middleton in 3rd (20:47) and Alastair Wilkin 7th at Northallerton parkrun (22:23). Elaine Watters was the 2nd lady (25:38), Charlotte Jackson-Bowers was the 5th lady in a brand new PB (27:32) and Kiki Fletcher was the 6th lady (27:43).

Rob Scott was the 1st finisher at Fountains Abbey parkrun (16:22) and Elly Robertson took her dog for a little run around (27:16). Steve Sadler back in the UK was 8th at Panshanger parkrun (20:32). Kevin and Jane Bond did the scenic, but very muddy, Keswick parkrun with Kevin finishing 8th in a new PB (20:20) and Jane helped out by doing the tail walking.
